"Frog and Toad Are Friends" by Arnold Lobel is a great book for beginning readers. The friendship between Frog and Toad is depicted vividly in five short chapter stories that are funny, engaging and easy to read. "Frog and Toad Are Friends", a Caldecott Award winner, is one of the best classic picture story books.

"Make Way for Ducklings" by Robert McCloskey is a charming classic children's book and one of the best picture books ever written. Mr. and Mrs. Mallard look for a place to hatch their ducklings. Later, Mrs. Mallard and her ducklings walk across town to Boston Public Garden with the help of a local policeman. Robert McCloskey's illustrations are detailed, realistic and expressive. This Caldecott Medal winner is a great book for preschoolers, kindergarteners and beginning readers.

"Corduroy", by Don Freeman, is a classic children's book about a stuffed bear going around a store in search of a lost button. A little girl finds Corduroy in the toy department of a store and falls in love with him. However, the girl's mother says she has spent her money and they leave without buying him. After an adventurous night around the store, Corduroy is happy to see the girl return to buy him with her own piggy bank money. Corduroy finally has a home and a friend. With a memorable character and great illustrations, "Corduroy" is one of the best picture books of the 20th century. Older toddlers, preschoolers and beginning readers will enjoy this imaginative and endearing story.
